The label of the 7" single for Terry Ganzie's "Welcome the Outlaw"

Terry Ganzie, “Welcome the Outlaw”

Riddim: General

Producer: Lloyd “John John” James, Jr.

Terry Ganzie never achieved broader recognition stateside the way his contemporaries like Buju Banton or even Terror Fabulous did, but he had a hell of a run in the early ’90s, voicing most the era’s biggest riddims (many on Penthouse Records). Badman tune for the ages right here.

Additional Listening:

Leroy & Rocky, “Love Me Girl” (1968): A small part of Leroy Sibbles’ prodigious output, this provided the foundation for the General riddim.

Terry Ganzie, “Send Dem Come” (1993): Some more of the Outlaw, this time over the Far East riddim (though a different version than Ninja Man rode on “Nice Up the Lawn”).

Terry Ganzie performs at Peter Metro’s club in Kingston
